Every morning before my husband leaves for work, he carries 3 large trays of seedlings down several flights of stairs, and parks them on a wooden pallet in the grass outside our apartment. Before he goes, he reminds me to set an alarm; each an hour later than the day before, so I don’t forget to bring the plants inside.
He’s becoming a gardener, in all his spare time. The garden itself, several shelves of what used to be my closet, has been in the works for months. He started the seedlings when icicles still hung thickly from the windowsill. My husband has devised complex electrical wiring systems for grow-lights, researched growing patterns and seed types. He has planted, cajoled, watered, and ordered not one, but two, large bags of mail order earthworms to support the nascent garden…
